Petzl Pantin VS CT Foot Ascender

Updated: Oct 22, 2019

Putting these two products head to head reveals a handy winner, and in case you don’t want to read the rest of this review the recommendation goes to the CT Foo Ascender. The Pantin is the lighter of the two, and is backed by one of the most reputable names in climbing, but lacks one key component (unless you want to spend a few extra dollars and buy it separately) which is a locking mechanism. The climbing technology foot ascended is slightly heavier grad aluminum,. and uses slightly thicker and more durable nylon webbing with an extra durability sleeve around the portion of webbing which goes under the foot and is subject to the most wear. Most importantly, it has a simple locking mechanism which is easily opened with one hand during use but prevents the rope from coming out or the device while in use. In this head to head the clear winner and better value is the CT foot ascender. I have included the link to the Pantin foot ascender which has the added "catch" to make it function more closely to the CT, however currently the CT ascender is still the better value.
